My Expertise & Interests
Therapeutic approach: In my work, I rely on commonly accepted evidence-based practices that are adapted to suit each individual, with an emphasis on clients' needs, a collaborative atmosphere, and cultural sensitivity. Drawing upon a range of therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy, I utilize a number of related techniques and skills to help my clients move past their current struggles. By taking a personalized and comprehensive approach, I am able to offer quality care and advice.
Therapeutic Focus: I specialize in providing therapy to adolescents and teenagers, adults, families, and groups. My expertise includes crisis counseling and stabilization, trauma, PTSD, Grief and loss, addictive behaviors, domestic and intimate partner violence, treating symptoms related to anxiety, depression, psychotic disorders, religion and spirituality, and mood disorders. My unique approach is to just meet you where you are.
Therapeutic Communication Style: I utilize active listening techniques, reflecting, and asking open-ended questions during psychotherapy. Active listening involves showing interest in what my clients have to say, acknowledging that I am listening and understanding, and engaging with you throughout the conversation.
My Journey to Therapy: As far back as I can remember, I have held interest and curiosity in understanding behaviors. My interest evolved into studying psychology and mental illness. I love the idea of helping a person face challenging situations through talk therapy, exploring solutions to life challenges, and discovering and addressing unhealthy root systems connected to dysfunctional behaviors. The goal is to guide and assist clients in doing the work needed to improve their experience of life. Making an impact on lives keeps me motivated.
My Goals for My Clients: I work collaboratively with clients to facilitate effectiveness and coping ability to adapt to challenges in life, enhance decision-making, and improve relationships. I hope to help you create a plan for your future by developing your awareness, self-knowledge, and skills for the journey. I provide unconditional positive regard and create a safe place to establish a trusting relationship to facilitate open communication, and healing and growth. I believe that healthy individuals make healthy families, and in turn, together we make a healthy community.
Your first therapy session: Stylistically, I try to encourage my clients to become autonomous, self-confident, and empowered. I provide radically compassionate and accepting care to clients with all life experiences and stories. I believe that a collaborative, safe, and strong relational connection is the foundation for providing a therapeutic space for clients to experience empowered growth and change.
